Based at North Weald, Essex, the Gnat Display Team has been one of the stalwarts of the UK Airshow scene in recent years.
Operating numerous examples of the Folland-built 1950's jet trainer, the team has always been run with a friendly demeanour, prompting me to stop off at North Weald to capture their typical Saturday afternoon’s activity.
On arrival to the Essex airfield, two of the team’s aircraft were parked outside, G-RORI, wearing the colours of 4 FTS, and G-MOUR, resplendent in the livery of the former-RAF display team, the Yellowjacks.
Below is a small gallery of images from an afternoon watching the team, including pilots Chris Heames and Edwin Brenninkmeyer taking the two aircraft up for a practice display over nearby RAF Bentwaters.
