Following a transitional season spanning 2018 and the first half of 2019, the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 2019-20 season got underway with its traditional trip to Silverstone, this time running to a four-hour format for the first time in the series’ eight-year history.
Despite not being the same ‘Super Season’, the new year also represents a transition, as the final year of the current top-class regulations. Since 2014, LMP1 entries from Porsche, Audi and Toyota have lit up the Silverstone circuit, with their incredible levels of performance.
As the new ‘Hypercar’ formula is set to come online at the start of the 2020-21 season, it represents the end of the LMP1 era, making the 4 Hours of Silverstone was my last oppportunity to marvel at the speed of the Toyota TS050 Hybrids, along with the nearly-as-impressive Rebellion R-13s and Ginetta G60-LT-P1s.
With nearly 20-hours of track-time spread across three days, the WEC and the supporting European Le Mans Series and Porsche Carrera Cup GB, sees on-track running coming in a mix of conditions, which coupled with the variety of cars competing in the series, offers many opportunities for photographers.
Below is a short set of pictures from the three days, which hopefully convey some of the story.
