With the UK airshow season drawing to a close, The Shuttleworth Collection put on its now annual ‘Race Day’ show during the first weekend of October.
The event brings out some of the finest Old Warden residents, including the stunning de Havilland DH-88 Comet, Miles Hawk Speed Six and Percival Mew Gull, as well as welcoming visitors such as a Travel Air Mystery Ship, North American TF-51 Mustang and a plethora of racing aircraft from around the country.
Whilst circuit air racing may not provide the best opportunities from a photographic perspective, the chance to see multiple types of aircraft flying at once in set pieces replicating races such as the Kings Cup and Schneider Trophy is unique to the show, bringing out a number of types which aren’t seen at many other places throughout the year.
The timing within the year however does give the event potential in terms of taking pictures, however, with the chance of nice golden light, along with Shuttleworth’s unique curved display line, and a selection of historic racing cars at the venue, which this year included Brooklands Museum’s Napier Railton.
Below is a selection of pictures from the day, in chronological order.
