Since 1993, the Festival of Speed has been the Goodwood Estate’s marquee event, attracting road and racing cars from around the world to take part in a celebration of everything on two and four wheels.
The Thursday of the show sees many participants taking to the 1.86km hillclimb for the first time, with vehicles ranging from the 1911 ‘Beast of Turin’ Fiat S76, to cars pushing the boundaries of modern technology, such as the record-breaking Volkswagen ID.R.
Alongside the runs up the hill, there’s also action on the Estate’s Hannu Mikola-designed Forest Rally Stage, as well as a first glance at new machinery, as the covers came off Ford’s new GT Mark II, and the De Tomaso P72.
From a photographic perspective, the Festival of Speed always offers fantastic variety, and the more laid-back nature of the Thursday makes it easier to take in more of what the event has to offer, something that’s hopefully is conveyed in the below images.
